We tried a couple of times. Almost succeeded. But we bought Alaska instead. Quebec and Montreal probably have better cooking, but less oil. Joe Gwinn

Now is the time to remember the cross boarder "accident" with India (only one or two years ago IIRC) China built a model, trained on it and as soon as they were done attacked the Indian soldiers on the real thing - just an accident. Yeah model American ships should send more than a shiver up the spine. No way to train / test / prove the AI on a hyper-sonic missile except in real time on a full size target in various scenarios, when they have done that... And the west's fuck witted governments keep looking 10 to 20 plus years ahead (so it is not heir problem) while ignoring the real capability gaps and dangers in the short term time frame. At times like this I think of Charles Babbage - (politicians and diapers should be changed often and for the same reason). I wonder why after 200+ years are we still stuck with the same quality of self serving, head in the sand pricks that pass themselves off as looking after the public interest

** The parallels with Pearl are striking, pun intended. The Chinese will soon be able to launch a simultaneous attack ( on a Sunday morning ? ) on as many US war ships as they like assembled in Asia Pacific waters to defend Taiwan. Disabling all of them. Only US subs are safe and can launch a counter attack - maybe with nukes. In reality, the US will simply have to back away from helping Taiwan. ...... Phil

China does not have to attack the US. All they have to do is quit exporting things and the US will almost die off. Many drugs and other goods that we depend on are from China. All the military in China has to do is keep us from invading their country.

China's goal is to tie down and hold the US for couple of weeks, while they consume Taiwan. Once they take over Taiwan, Philippine, Vietname, etc will be under China control. They want half of the Pacific.
