Another Pearl Harbor ?

Started by Phil Allison November 8, 2021
Hi,

see Aussie news item about China preparing to attack US war ships.

https://7news.com.au/news/world/new-satellite-images-show-china-building-mockups-of-us-navy-ships-c-4479446

Anyone who has seen the movie " Tora Tora Tora " will remember how Japanese Naval Airmen practiced their surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in late 1941 - using scale models of the target area and moving maps viewed through bomb sights fitted inside aircraft.

Too simple.

I have no doubt that US pilots practice bombing mockup targets. -- If a man will begin with certainties, he shall end with doubts, but if he will be content to begin with doubts he shall end in certainties. Francis Bacon

** You have no fucking clue either. But the US is not planning specifically to attack Chinese carriers any time soon. You fail to see the significance. As bloody usual. ..... Phil

I have a cousin who is a jet fighter pilot. He tells me about this stuff. He says strafing with an A10 is great fun. He's flown most everything.

Of course we are. The military rehearses all sorts of scenarios. -- If a man will begin with certainties, he shall end with doubts, but if he will be content to begin with doubts he shall end in certainties. Francis Bacon

The military's role is to be prepared for virtually any war they might be called to prosecute. I can't imagine they don't practice bombing runs against all the major powers' war craft unless it is because pilots are probably not the best way to attack a warship. That's what we have missiles for. I don't think people are much involved other than in validating the ID of the target. Didn't we look at using pigeons to pilot missiles at some point in the past? -- Rick C. - Get 1,000 miles of free Supercharging - Tesla referral code - https://ts.la/richard11209

all kinds of weird stuff was tried during WWII. Seagulls to look for u-boat periscopes, pigeons in a missile guiding it by pecking the window where it saw a ship. dogs with bomb vests trained to look for food under tanks

I read during the Cold War practice bomb runs against Minneapolis (IIRC) were sometimes performed because it most resembled a Soviet city.

"The satellite images showed a full-scale outline of a US carrier" The picture doesn't look much like the outline of any modern US carrier, it look like they stole it from the Tora Tora Tora movie set.
