The scene must have called for a closeup of Baldwin firing the weapon right into the camera, or close to it. The blast could have blown something loose from the camera assembly and into the victims. That's not likely to be something they would test out in advance. What's really telling is Hollywood's the-show-must-go-on attitude despite personal tragedy.
