Is it safe to operate a 2N3904 in a switching application with a supply voltage of 48 volts? The data sheet says Vceo is 40 and Vcbo is 60 volts. When the transistor switches off, the collector to emitter voltage will be 48 and the base voltage will be near 0 through a resistor. Any problems with that? --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: news@netfront.net ---

I offer to share with you a TUTORIAL but don't know how to get it into your hands. The TUTORIAL is about 15kB, zipped, and describes the step-by-step process of using FREE femm 4.2 to analyze a simple PCB structure to calculate values to then use in circuit simulation, LTspice/PSpice. The sequence can be modified for use in analyzing really complex structures, structures where th...

So I got a bunch of these from China for a couple dollars. How can I tell they are not fakes and does it matter if I'm just going to stash them in my junk box and I don't expect any critical applications. In general, what's the right way to go about validating parts coming from China?

Using a 12V 2A power supply direct and with 3V voltage divider?

I have forgotten everything I learned in the single electrical science class I took in college 25 years ago. Please forgive my ignorance. I have a single 12V 2A power supply. I want to simultaneously power a 20W 12V fan and supply a 3V 2mA current via a voltage divider. The fan would be connected direct to the +/- of the PS while a voltage divider with R1=4500 and R2=1500 would provide the...

Hi, If I measure the DC resistance of a hi-fi speaker with an impedance of 8 ohms, it comes out at approx. 8 ohms. But when I measure the DC resistance of a dynamic microphone with a stated impedance of 50k ohms, it comes out as only 1500 ohms. Another dynamic mic with a stated impedance of 400 ohms reads only 1.1 ohms DC resistance. Why do mics DC resistance seem to measure different...

The LED ("Light Emitting DIODE") is common place now. In fact it seems like they went from being simple "power on" indicator lamps to the lighting of the future for darn near everything. But what I dont understand is why they have never made a "Light Emitting TRIODE"? (LET). It seems there would be many advantages!

Trying to pick a JFET that's still being made with reasonable low noise characteristics for simple audio preamp type duties. No golden-ear BS, just things that can be measured. Mic preamps, instrument pickup preamps, a FET to have in the junkbox for unknown things yet to be cobbled in the small-signal audio range. Cheap is also good. Jeorg cheap would be even better ;-) Old-fashioned pac...

Still having a problem understanding this aspect of LT Spice. Say I draft a circuit. I must put a (voltage) source in - say sine at a constant frequency eg SINE 0 10 150. If I then want to see what happens to that circuit across a range of frequencies I must insert a .ac command, which allows me to specify a start and stop frequency. eg: .ac lin 50 100 1000 when I do this I get ...
