I have built a flatbed printer from an old Epson 640 but need to fool the printer into thinking there is paper in, when the drive stepper is disabled I have tried timing relays but can't get it right. Does any clever person know how I do this. This would be a great project if it were possible.

The printer has a power plug that goes into the printer. There are three female sockets recessed in the plug. I would guess the center one is ground. pin 1 to 3 is 32v dc pin 2 to 3 is 30v dc pin 1 to 2 is 2v dc A LED on the adapter is growing green. Does this seem normal? Is there a way to diagnose otherwise?

Hi, how people have connected a printer to micro controller? On my quest to learn PICs (mostly the 32-bit). I have only used included basic in the BV513 to learn how to connect external circuitry to uC. I tested with PicKIT III and was able to read the BV513. Then it must be possible to program it also. Anyway I came to idea of connecting printer to BV513 and can not figure out how t...

Is there a reason why different websites list different signal states on some parallel port pins? Are some just wrong, or were there two types of parallel ports for PC's at one time? For example: http://et.nmsu.edu/~etti/fall96/computer/printer/printer.html indicates that pins 10 and 15 are inverted inputs, while http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Bill_Bowden/page6.htm#p_input ha...

I need to replace a cable connector on the control panel of a HP psc 750xi printer. The control panel pops off the rest of the printer fairly easily, and is connected to the rest of the printer by a ten-conductor ribbon cable. The cable slides into a connector on the control panel's circuit board - kind of like a card-edge connector, only with a ribbon cable instead of the card edge. ...

Hi, Lexmark's cartridges are expensive. Has anyone found other cartridges that will fit and run the Z 2390 printer? Thanks Ps. Am I right in thinking that substitute cartridges would need a universal printer driver? I suppose the original driver just might work?

Hello! :-) It's been a while. I got the idea of hacking an old inkjet color printer and turning it into a flat bed. I can probably recycle the motors already in the device, but let say that I just want to use the printer head and completely rebuild the rest of the system. What would be a suitable motor (e.g. stepper) to control the movement of the printhead? I was thinking of giving ...

After refilling one of the Canon inkjets with the newer chipped carts (ip4200, etc), one loses the ability to monitor the ink levels using the printer's cirquitry and software. This is unfortunate. It occurred to me that it would be quite easy to make a low-cost add-on ink level warning device - comprising a sensor that detects when the rear portion of the cartridge (the chamber with no sp...

I was just wondering if it is possible to make a printer similar to an inkjet that prints microchip designs. It could print three types of pixels using three materials: conductive material - i.e. copper n-type material - i.e. silicon crystal doped with phosphorus p-type material - i.e. silicon crystal doped with boron A transistor would simply be an n pixel, p pixel, and n pixel adjacen...

why are stepper motors so hard to turn?

I picked up some female DB25 to db25 connectors that I'll need to install in the walls of of some project boxes, that I've yet to get, and realize that a "DB" is a different connector than a "db". I guess it's not a big deal because either way I have to connect one side to terminal strips. But having to buy another kind of adaptor seems redundant. Does there exist crimp pins that I coul...

I have a relatively-ginormous Xerox 7750DN color laser printer, rated 12A. I bought it when I was living in a large house, where it had its own closet and its own 20A circuit; it worked great there. Now I live in an apartment, and any time it powers up, any lights on the same circuit will dim and flicker - even fluorescent ones, which I don't get, but whatever. Worse, even in its "sleep mod...
