EVGO CHPT

Started by Ed Lee May 3, 2023
CSU (Cal State U) is now anti-EV. During the pandemic, I got kicked out of their chargers. Now, all chargers go dark. I have to go 8 miles north to the charger in Cere. The charger looks and feels like ChargePoint, but i got an email that my EvGo account will be charged. The only link between EVGO and CHPT is my email address.

Did EVGO hijacked CHPT?

Were they FREE?

I don't think I want an electric car.

Yes, but I would pay if I have to. There is no other option along this route.

Only if they are cheap. Leaf is cheaper than similar ICE cars, but you just have to pay what you get, not get what you pay.

This seems like a shitload of effort just to "refuel" a device that you likely use daily. I can think of two "gas stations" that have closed in the decades I've been here: one associated with a grocery store (why is a grocery store selling fuel?) and the other to make way for a coffee shop -- likely because there are far too many gas stations (and not enough coffee shops???)

Yes, driving EV is very challenging. I am just experiencing it to report the fact, just the fact, as a matter of fact. I am not anti-EV or anti-ICE. It's for some people, but not all people, certainly not 100% by 2040. Since I get hit from both EV fans and ICE lovers, I must be correct.

Forget the proselytizing. Why would you want to CONTINUE with something that is proving to be such a hassle? I could see if it was something that you used infrequently -- like a weedwacker that is a pain to rethread the cutting line... you can opt to put up with it because it makes trimming weeds so much easier. But, I'm going to hop in the car and buy some groceries. Then, two hours later, I'll head out for another trip (store opens later). I'd surely not want to have to wonder/worry about whether or not I can make both trips, regardless of traffic, temperature sitting in stopped traffic under the sun, etc. There's just more important things for me to worry about than "fuel". [I have literally no idea where the cheapest fuel is, in town. But, I *do* know where the most *convenient* -- to my typical other activities -- fuel is available. As its a commodity, I don't expect to see significantly different prices from one place to another. Just like I expect Planters Peanuts to cost *roughly* the same in a given tier of shops]

But i only do long distance few times per year and I got plan B (AAA+) and C (GG). Local charging/driving within the bay area is fine. AAA+: 4x100miles towing GG: Gasoline Generator

I only travel to other states a few times per year. I let a commercial airline get me there, most times. Because driving is not worth the time nor *risk* (accidents, breakdowns, weather events, etc.) [Vegas or SoCal are worth the drive as I have other activities that I can take in when I've got "wheels". But, see below...] Rent a car if you need to go any significant distance. Fuel will be available at damn near every corner. AND, if it breaks down, you call the rental company: "YOUR car is broken. Come get/fix it!"

Similarly, I don't keep a "truck" for the few times each year that I might need one. Borrow from a friend, have THEM drive you, or rent and I can solve my infrequent hauling problems without having to commit to the hassle of owning/maintaining another vehicle.

Well, AAA+ is like public transport for EV, and very reasonable (read the stalled EV thread). You can't beat $25 for moving the car 100 miles. I only need it going into Vegas and getting out of LA. I can always do infinte one way loop of SF-LA-LV without problem.
