I paraphrase: "The 1859 Carrington event ... caused a black-out across the entire Canadien province of Quebec." I didn't know solar storms also affected candles, oil and gas lamps. Never too old to learn... ;-) Jeroen Belleman

On my (ever-shrinking) bucket list. Do let us know if you glimpse a peek (UK). (sigh) Had I been living farther north, it would have been worth a few hour's additional drive for a possible peek. Alas, ain't gonna happen, from here! OTOH, I enjoy several meteor showers each year -- which never seem to get old! Next to impossible to view from the more northern places I've lived (light pollution, cloud cover, etc.)
Not according to NOAA. Or am I missing something here?

We will have to wait and see. I have 8/8 cloud cover so it is academic. The UK site I normally use is down at the moment - sensor probelms. There have been a few quite good displays recently further north. -- Regards, Martin Brown
