The guy I knew had a new car. But in any case it doesn't mean Pease
wasn't qualified to write a book on driving. He was just too much in
love with that car.

Or in a car with air bags, crumple zones, and a rigid passenger
compartment--IOW anything made in the previous 15 years or so. The old
Beetle was a deathtrap.
