My kid's working for me, doing circuit design under my direction. I get this phone call: Him: "so, is it OK if I put a 3.3V symbol upside down" Me: "Well the rule of thumb is absolutely not, but if you must to make the thing understandable then I guess so.." Him: "OK, well -- WAIT!! I can rotate this transistor! (click)" Learning new things is fun, even if it's second hand. ...

So I'm looking for an idea for a circuit...basically what I'd need is a trigger that can generate both an exponential rise and fall for controlling the current into a VCA through a PNP transistor. So to get a sense of the operation: I press a button down, and the output of the circuit ramps up from some voltage to Vcc exponentially and stays there, so long as I'm holding the it down. Re...

Could some electronics guru here please help me undestand the following. I created the SPICE simulation for a common collector Colpitts oscillator. The target oscillation frequency is 500.0 MHz, and I am using the HFA3134 RF/microwave NPN transistor, with a Ft of 8 GHz. When the raw transient analysis data is plotted and the resolution adjusted to clearly see individual oscillations, ...

We're interviewing design engineers and interns, all EE graduates or soon to be. So far, nobody knows the basics of what an opamp or a transistor does. One guy, prompted, got an opamp output polarity right; we might hire him. This is good news for us, I suppose; what we do will be in increasing demand. All I need to do is hire smart people and teach them what I know. -- John Larki...

Hi all, It still amazes me after all the years LTspice has been around the standard parts library in it remains so tiny. I don't think this long- standing defect in otherwise very good program will ever be fixed. So like anyway, has anyone got a model for a BD131 NPN transistor they could post here? TIA folks. CD

Take a look at this part; it's really cool. http://www.triquint.com/products/d/DOC-A-00000359 It's a wideband amp, actually an InGaAs darlington transistor with a couple of feedback resistors. It's down 3 dB at about 4 GHz, but it's apparently stable in all sorts of circuits. It's a medium-power RF amp, but I'm using it to amplify pulses and it's really nice... I'm seeing 60 ps falltim...

Is there a way that any one knows of in Ltspice to override a .MODEL of NPN for example, parameter? I mean something you pick out of the database and drop on the sheet? For example, the other day some one here was talking about issues with Vbe values and a transistor number was posted that had a Vbeo of 25v. That got me thinking, so I fired up Ltspice and found that none of t...
