Hi, folks:- I am looking at using an array of BPW34S photodiodes to detect a visible red laser. https://www.vishay.com/docs/81521/bpw34.pdf Reverse biased by about 0.5V. The sensitive area is 3mm x 3mm. What happens to the photocurrent if only part of the PD sensitive area is illuminated? --Spehro Pefhany

Hi, all, I'm doing a miniaturized version of my low noise diode laser controller for a big biomed customer. It's supposed to replace an existing unit for retrofitting, as well as being designed in to their new products. The wrinkle is that it has to run off a single +5V supply instead of our usual +24V. Sooooo, it needs a boost converter. To reduce the dissipation in the TEC drive...

During this shutdown, I did a little pcb layout for my triggered common-collector Colpitts oscillator, and had some boards fabbed. A manufacturing person came in today and built a couple for me. It's a triggered 125 MHz oscillator that will be used to time delays in a laser system. We want minimal time jitter so I tried to keep the Q up. The inductor is a Coilcraft Midi-Spring. I used ...

Today's issue of the Proceedings of the (US) National Academy of Sciences opens with a tolerably interesting article https://www.pnas.org/content/117/4/1824 It's likely to be a more compact solution than ITER, and could get working earlier. There's a guy in Sydney who wants to use a pulsed laser to fuse boron nuclei, who seems to think that he's even closer to a practical solution, but th...

I would like to etch a few PCB's using the laser transfer method. I have proper toner transfer paper, and will use DipTrace to create the artwork. What are typical sizes to specify for: 1. Signal tracks 2. Power rails 3. Component pads I know these are variable, so let's assume something like a 2W audio amp. Also, it is easy to include a copper pour. Is there any advantge or di...
