All this google spam and everywhere on usenet !

Do the "google groups" have this spam problem ?

The Google spam portal ?

Sounds like a convenient way to annoy the usenet servers and
service providers to stop carrying and stop supporting usenet
news or send people packing to some other list, group or forum
based alternative ?

The observation that the spamming originates on the service that
indexes millions (billions?) of items on the web, and that this
service seems not to be able to identify and terminate the spamming
accounts certainly does raise the question of, if not intent, then at
least indifference.

So, is it malfeasance or nonfeasance?

A more likely outcome is to have Usenet users start filtering out all
posts originating from Google - and that may have the unwanted (by
Google greed) effect of causing more people to learn to use Usenet
without the Google interface - saving their time and protecting their
privacy.

Another possibility is a ghetto arrangement like AOL had with their
own separate bulletin board groups - maybe the more limited groopers
will never learn and Google will split with Usenet?

Given that they are supposed to be algorithm experts, and could easily
recognize and snip the spam, it has to be deliberate. They could also
close the gmail accounts of chronic spammers.

I like this one: Use any search engine other than Google till they
stop polluting USENET with porn and junk commercial SPAM

In fact, I just added it to my USENET sig file.

Any pointers on how one does that. my news client only allows filtering on
Subject or Author , not origin or source.

Download Nfilter (NewsProxy) and set it to connect to your server and set
your reader to connect to "localhost." Then, set up the filter using lines
such as:

* drop Message-ID:*googlegroups*

I use www.dogpile.com, but it uses Google as one of its engines, along with
Yahoo Search, Live Search, and Ask.com. A long time ago I used
www.hotbot.com, which is still active, and uses MSN, Lycos, and Yahoo (you
choose which one to use). I also used Webcrawler
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebCrawler, but it uses a variety of engines,
including Google, and it (among others) is owned by Infospace.

But at least it seems like some of these alternate search engines may not
generate any revenue for Google, and I have found them to be OK.

It would probably be a good idea to stop automatically "googling", and use
competitor engines, and maybe see if there is another web-based email and
usenet access company that is similar to Google but better about
discouraging spam and porn.

I would also file complaints against Google for their complicity in child
pornography which is sometimes advertised by Google posters. And perhaps
the FBI and FTC for allowing their customers to create denial of service
(DOS) by spamming newsgroups.

Take action!

Paul

Hmmmm. Let's think about this...

Usenet has no ads that put dollars into Google's pockets.

Google cannot control Usenet.

Google fills Usenet with spam.

"Google Groups" do have ads that put dollars into Google's pockets.

Google can control "Google Groups".

Google protects the "Google Groups" from most of the spam.

Could it possibly be that Google is simply doing what
Google does best; destroying all cometition using whatever
means possible?

This thread should be modified into a "BOYCOTT Google Search Engine"
thread. MAYBE if it were in the title, they might be able to see the
thread past their blinders.

Then, we should actually plan and execute the boycott, so they feel it
right where it counts, and you watch how fast they get off their asses
then.

Or sluggishness. Has anyone written them to complain? Have 100,000
written them?

As was already pointed out, a lot of other search engines access
Google, but don't show their paid advertising. Several check all the
major search engines for you and average the rankings so what pushing
something to the top of Google's algorithms, pushes it down another,
giving a more honest list. Every time Google modifies its ranking
algorithms, things seem to get worse. You can be at the top of your
category one day, and they don't even show you the next.

Anyone paying Google for click throughs needs to reconsider.

As a last resort: If you refuse to switch, then open every paid
listing on every search, then close it without looking. Hit them in the
pockets. When people start raising hell that the clicks have gone up,
but generate no more sales it will hit the fan.
