I have this circuit driving a pulsed laser. I want to compute the energy dumped into the laser and the energy stored in the power supply capacitors. The ballpark is 120 amps into a 20 volt laser for a few hundred microseconds. What I did was create a "B" behavioral current source whose equation is I = V(LASER) * I(LASER) which represents power, and dump that into a 1 farad cap. The...

I saw a bug on my ceiling... Which reminded me of a utube video of a spider chasing after a laser spot. So I get the laser pointer(actually a laser distance measurement tool) and aim it near the bug. It flies! I don't like flies and when it relanded on the ceiling I decided to do a less friendly test.. Laser blinding! muhahahhaha.... :P I rested the laser spot all over the fly. A good 30...

Hi I am working on a project, just for my own business I need a laser marking system, that can show a cross hair or other visible marking on a cardboard box up to 4 meters away Initial thought would be class 1 laser (no approvals?) and then 2 steppers in a mechanical arrangement to provide x and y functions I can add a USB camera to home in the laser, so the mechanism does not need to ...

Received a phone call from a client in regards to a new medical laser device. Whenever the laser is activated it causes a sympathetic loud hum in only one of the Valcom ceiling speakers - located relatively far away in the waiting room. Speakers closer to the laser show no symptoms. Haven't gone on-site yet. AFAIR, a sheilded audio cable feeds the speakers, and a LM386 drives them. The b...

For one of our instruments, Diode laser spectroscopy, (http:// www.teachspin.com/instruments/diode_laser/index.shtml) We use a CCD camera and little TV to image the NIR laser spot and observe the Rubidium fluorescence. LEDs and lasers get way more efficient when they are cold. But their junction drop increases too. So it seems that driving them from some magical Thevenin source would temperature compensate the light output. Has anyone done this? I need to hold some dBm level from a laser source from -40 to +85C and that might be a simple way to do it.

So we modulate the light from a diode laser by wiggling the diode current. This has two effects, the most obvious is that it changes the amplitude of the light. (AM) Less obvious (though I think more dominant in changing the frequency.) is that changing the laser current has two other effects on the frequency. At low frequencies (

I had someone today tell me it would be hard to bevel laser cut plexiglass. Anyone know if that is true? I know little about the material really, but they talked about it splintering, etc. The issue is that it has a corner on the edge that is causing some wear to a plastic object it is pushing on. The ideas they talked about to solve this issue included some that struck me as odd like a...

We will be firing up a semiconductor laser, at a couple of watts optical output, around 1500 nm. The output will be small diameter and well collimated, so it will be dangerous. We can bolt our driver and the tiny laser to a metal block, and put that into a metal box with a tight-fitting cover. What should we do with the light? If we just hit an anodized surface, a lot of it will boun...

Anyone familiar with the optical device for measuring distance that is similar to a dual telescope. You look at an object and adjust the device to bring the 2 images together. The distance to the object is then indicarted. Some may just indicate the angle. The one's I've seen were about 12 inches wide and 1 or 2 deep. Not directly electronics design, but todays YouTube video by Anton Petrov (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM-J_VZOw60&ab_channel=AntonPetrov) was on solar sails and it made me wonder if you could turn the idea around. Instead of using a sail, why not mount a laser and create the light onboard instead of depending on incoming light from the Sun or an external laser. Like an ion driv...

I want to make a narrow pulse. This will drive an e/o modulator to be an optical "fiducial" marker in a laser system. I can use a Leo Bodnar style laser driver chip to make a fast edge, but I don't know if the chip will propagate a 100 ps wide pulse. If it won't, maybe I can feed it a step and clip the output with a shorted transmission line. Making a 16.66 ohm line is a bit clumsy on ...

So I'm doing a simplified version of the differential laser noise canceller, which in the spherical cow universe looks like it does very well out to about 10 MHz, thanks to the amazing properties of BFP640s and some new photodiodes with reduced series resistance. I have some old assembly listing files that are text, paged by formfeed characters. I can't find a way to print nice listings on a modern laser printer/copier. They ignore the formfeeds or print a black box. Any ideas? Maybe I could write a program to replace the ff's with a control sequence or something?
